B-1 Business Visitor Visas: Are you visiting the United States as to secure funding or office space, negotiate a contract, or attend certain business meetings in connection with opening a new business in this country? If so, you may be eligible for a business visitor visa.
How long can I visit the U.S. on a B-1 visa? These visas typically allow up to a six-month stay in the U.S.
F-1 Optional Practical Training (OPT)): Are you an F-1 student in the United States who would like to start a business that is directly related to your major area of study? If so, you may be eligible for OPT. Students in English language training programs, however, are ineligible for OPT.
How long can I work in the U.S. on OPT? An F-1 student may be authorized for up to 12 months of OPT, and becomes eligible for another 12 months of OPT when he or she seeks another post-secondary degree at a higher degree level. An F-1 student with a qualifying Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) degree may apply for a 17-month extension of their post-completion OPT.
H-1B Visa: Are you planning to work for the business you start in the United States in an occupation that normally requires a bachelors degree or higher in a related field of study (e.g., engineers, scientists or mathematicians)? If so, and you have at least a bachelors degree or equivalent in a field related to the position, you may be able to obtain an H-1b visa.
How long can I visit the U.S. on an H-1b Visa? You can stay for an initial period of up to three years, with extensions in three year increments possible, up to a maximum of six years, with further extensions possible.
O-1A Extraordinary Ability and Acheivement: Do you have extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business or athletics? Have you received demonstrable acclaim and recognition? Will you be visiting the U.S. to start a business in your field? You may be eligible for an O-1A visa if you have "Extraordinary ability," meaning you have a level of expertise indicating you are one of the small percentage of people who have risen to the very top of your field.> This visa is a three year visa, with one year increments possible.
